This is one of the largest bugs in Mavericks’ Mail app, which affects Gmail accounts and Google Apps email accounts. This used to work just fine in previous versions of OS X, so it is a brand new problem in Mavericks: Mail can’t delete messages from the Inbox unless Google’s “All Mail” folder is visible in Apple Mail.
- OS X Mavericks introduced App Nap, which sleeps apps that are not currently visible. Any app running on Mavericks can be eligible for this feature by default. Compressed Memory is a virtual memory compression system which automatically compresses data from inactive apps when approaching maximum memory capacity.
- Mail Update for Mavericks includes improvements to general stability and compatibility with Gmail, including the following: - Fixes an issue that prevents deleting, moving, and archiving messages.

How I wish this worked. There has be a way .. there were inklings in Mountain Lion that it was not going to go well, Mail-wise.
And the drop-down From menu in a new mail: 3 mac/icloud have risen to the top - hey, Apple, you didn't used to be this way - and two are duplicates.

i use spaces and z's in the account description:
for the top-most one, add a space in front of the name in the account description, to have one listed last, i use a z in front of the name:
' myfirstaccount'
'mysecondaccount'
'z another account'
'zz last account'
it's pretty lame, but it's the only solution i've found..
PS: if you don't like the 'z', you may want to use 3 spaces for the fist, 2 for the second, 1 for the third, and none for the last. Also, with a little luck, part of the desired sort order jives with the natural alphabetical sorting of your account names.
Any any case, that is how it is sorted: alphabetical on the account name.
remember that this account name does not show up on your emails, so you can use whatever name you like, and no one will be the wiser..

There is a much easier way to do this. In the OS X Mail window, simply drag the accounts (that is, the inbox mailboxes) into the order you wish them to be, then restart Mail.

I've used this trick for a long time, and it works for me under Mavericks and Mountain Lion, and it probably works under others. Not sure why it doesn't work on your system.
Here’s how to fix the spinning beach ball (wheel) issue in Mac Mail, it involves resetting the Mac Mail Preferences by trashing the com.apple.mail.plist file. This has been tested for Mavericks and the file may reside in a different location based on the version of OSX you are using. Do so at your own risk.
Step 1 – Open Finder
![Mac Mac](/uploads/1/3/4/2/134204219/215602881.jpg)
Make sure Mac Mail is not running and force quit if necessary. Open a new finder window.
Step 2 – Delete the com.apple.mail.plist file
Go to /Library/Containers/com.apple.mail/Data/Library/Preferences and find the com.apple.mail.plist file. Click and drag the file in to your trash.
Step 3 – Restart your Mac
This one’s important – Restart your Mac and open up Mac Mail. Yelo play app mac. In most cases this will reset your Mac Mail to it’s default view and it should be good to go. Some people have reported that they have had to add their email accounts in again so be prepared for this particularly if you don’t know how to set them up by yourself.
