With the introduction of Windows 7, you can pin a program to the Windows taskbar. Pinning creates a shortcut to a program that allows the user to open that program from the taskbar using a mouse or shortcut keys. This feature is beneficial because you don't have to minimize all your windows like you would to use a desktop shortcut.
Quick Launch is a feature that was included with Windows 98 up through Windows Vista. It works the same way as pinning. Locate your version of Windows below and follow the steps.

If the program is open, pin it to the taskbar by right-clicking the icon on the taskbar and clicking Pin to taskbar. Once pinned to the taskbar, it always appears on the taskbar even if the program is closed.

Mac OS X also has a couple of ways to pin your most used items to the dock: Drag the program, file, or folder icon to the dock and wait for the icons in the dock to move to make room for the new icon. Lastly, if you would like to remove an app from the shelf, just right-click on its icon and choose Unpin or click on an app and drag it from the shelf. You can also drag and drop icons on the. 1 Open the Start menu, right click or press and hold on any pinned item (ex: website) on the right side that you want to unpin, and click/tap on Unpin from Start. The exact Unpin option text will differ depending on the location of the pinned item. For example, if a program is pinned to the taskbar, the option will be named Unpin from taskbar.

How To Unpin From Screen

Now, let’s test. Go ahead and close the app you just assigned to a desktop, navigate to Desktop 1 in Mission Control, then launch the app again—and when you do, it should launch in the desktop you assigned it to.
Also, if the app you’ve pinned to a desktop opens automatically when you start up your Mac, the app will now launch in its assigned window.
OK, but what if you want to “unpin” an app from a desktop? Just right-click its icon in the dock, select Options, then select “None” under “Assign to.”
